This wooden carousel now located in the children's playground area of
Fleishhacker Zoo came to its present location in 1925 from the defunct
Pacific City Amusement Park.  According to the best records
available, it was carved in 1924-22 by the William Dentzel
Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

California Artist Lee Hartman is a member of
The National League of American Pen Women Inc.
She is listed in the Portrait Directory,
a book of contemporary American artists.

This double-decker carousel, the inspiration of architects/designers
Randell Duell & Associates, graces the entrance to Great American
Theme Park. Standing 100 feet, Carousel Columbia displays
original oil paintings on its crown and 103 enameled
animals, all replicas of rare originals.
